Fairy Pools
he Fairy Pools, located in Glenbrittle on the Isle of Skye, are a must-see natural wonder. These stunning pools are formed by crystal-clear mountain spring water fed by a series of waterfalls from the Cuillin Mountains. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful 2.4km walk along gravel paths, surrounded by grass, heather, peat and rocks while taking in the breathtaking views of the largest waterfall and smaller pools along the way. Brave swimmers can even take a dip in the icy waters of the pools but are advised to bring wetsuits for added protection against the cold.
Although the Fairy Pools are peaceful today, they have a violent past, with the infamous ‘Battle Of Coire Na Creiche’ fought here between the MacLeods Of Dunvegan and MacDonalds Of Sleat clans. Nowadays, the area is popular amongst outdoor enthusiasts, but visitors are reminded to act responsibly and follow Scottish Outdoor Access Code, parking notices, and to dispose of litter responsibly. Nearby, visitors can find WC facilities, award-winning Glenbrittle Campsite & Cafe and the beautiful Loch Brittle beach.
The Fairy Pools are free to visit at any time, but parking fees and car park regulations are set by the Minginish Community Hall Association and can be found on the OATS website. So, come and experience the magic of the Fairy Pools, and enjoy the natural beauty of the Isle of Skye.
