Glenmore is a National Nature Reserve that is managed by Camping in the Forest, in collaboration with the Forestry Commission. It covers the entire area of Glenmore Forest Park and provides an excellent habitat for wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The name ‘Glenmore’ translates to ‘big glen’ in Gaelic, which aptly describes the vast expanse of this nature reserve.
Within its boundaries, you can find a variety of pinewood specialists such as twinflower, one-flowered wintergreen, as well as red squirrels, crossbills, and crested tit. Birdsong fills the air here, providing a peaceful and serene environment.
The forest offers a plethora of activities for visitors, such as walking, cycling, orienteering, and skiing during the winter months. If you prefer water sports, then you can head to nearby Loch Morlich for fishing or sailing. Additionally, camping and caravan sites are available for those looking to stay overnight.
To help plan your visit, a visitor centre is conveniently located at B970, just 6 miles away from Aviemore via Cairngorms route before crossing Abhainn Ruigh-eunachan bridge. You can also access the Allt Mor car park after another 3/4 mile drive, which is indicated by green FCS sign. Alternatively, a regular bus service runs between Aviemore and Glenmore daily.
