Loch Maree Islands
The Loch Maree Islands are a group of islands located on the freshwater loch, Loch Maree. The area is home to more than forty scattered islands which have been blessed with some of Britain’s last remaining natural woodlands – a remnant from the original Caledonian Pine Forest. Thanks to its wet climate, many hollows are now blanket bog and occasional stunted pines can be found growing in them. Black-throated divers choose this spot as one of Britain’s least polluted lakes for breeding purposes due to its tranquility and serenity. To get there you must travel ten miles northwest from Kinlochewe via the A832 road, or take advantage of limited bus services that operate out from Inverness towards this remote destination.
