Balvenie Castle
Balvenie Castle, located near Dufftown in Aberdeenshire, is a historic ruin dating back to the 13th century. Originally known as Mortlach Castle, it features an impressive curtain wall which is a rare example of 13th-century military architecture in Scotland.
One of the notable structures within the castle is the Atholl Lodging, which showcases Renaissance architecture and displays the layout of a noble residence, complete with fine details added during the 15th and 16th centuries. Balvenie Castle has an intriguing history, having been visited by Mary Queen of Scots in 1562, King Edward I from England, and Marquess Montrose. V
