Elgin Museum
At Elgin Museum you can explore objects from all over the world, with a special focus on Moray. The museum is Scotland’s oldest continuously independent museum and has been open since 1836. It is housed in an Italianate-style Category A listed building at the east end of Elgin High Street. You can find out more about its changing exhibitions, family events, activities and lectures by visiting their website or booking school visits for research purposes if desired. As well as offering educational experiences to guests they also provide a beautiful venue for weddings, corporate events and parties too! There are some amazing permanent displays such as fossils from local areas of interest that have been recognised by experts; Pictish carvings which make up one of largest collections in Moray; plus ‘People and Place’ showcases 1000 years worths stories about Moray’s history Admission to the Museum is free but donations are always appreciated so please consider giving something when you visit this season (which requires prior bookings). Finally we should acknowledge that The Moray Society own this landmark institution while volunteers keep it alive – new members/volunteers will be warmly welcomed into help support these efforts..
