Falls of Shin Visitor Attraction
Follow the winding road up through Achany Glen, alongside the meandering River Shin to an opening in the pine forest where you can witness Atlantic salmon valiantly leaping upstream against a thundering waterfall. Every year throughout summer, these fish swim from open ocean into Dornoch Firth and Kyle of Sutherland before attempting to reach further up stream – with Falls of Shin being one of Scotland’s best places for viewing this spectacular event! The best time is between May-September. There are free admission and parking available as well as four walking routes created by Forestry Commission Scotland that vary in difficulty – including some games for children! For those looking for more fun there is also a Children’s Playpark and Mini Golf onsite. Well behaved dogs are welcome too! Unfortunately, at present the restaurant gift shop and toilets remain closed due to Covid restrictions but please refer to their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/KyleofSutherlandDT)for regular updates regarding events or activities held throughout the year..
