Learnie Red Rock Trails

North of Inverness lies a hidden gem for Scottish biking enthusiasts, the Learnie trails. These trails are intertwined and so tight in places that sections have been cut out of two trees to allow handlebars through! These new single track trails officially opened in March 2006 and provide a more diverse riding experience than other routes in the Black Isle area. They were designed by Paul Masson of Cycletherapy and replaced established trails that had evolved over several years of local use.

The Forestry Commission Scotland secured funding for these upgrade works in February 2005, resulting in 16 km of high-quality trails for all skill levels with spectacular views included along the way. There are forest roads, green, blue and black graded single tracks as well as an orange graded bike park/dirt jump area near the car parks east off A832 Rosemark Cromarty Road. There’s something here suitable for everyone from novices to experts alike!

The green route offers a real mountain biking challenge including double jumps or table tops if taken slowly while dirt jump areas include three levels ranging from beginner up to expert. For thrill-seekers, there is also Mephisto: a 10ft stone pitched drop from a bank into the road.
