Spey Bay
Spey Bay is an extremely popular area among beach and river estuary lovers. It forms part of the largest vegetated shingle complex in all of Scotland, with a vast assemblage of plants and invertebrates that clearly illustrate ecological succession from bare shingle to young woodland. To maximize the value at this site, whin and trees spread out from a conifer plantation to the west are gradually being cleared away so as to create multiple small glades which will offer up structural diversity as well as habitats for wildlife. The eastern car park located at Birdwatchers Corner provides one great observation point across saltmarsh regions where wildfowl can be seen quite easily. Tugnet also has its own carpark complete with museum and wildlife centre; here you can follow paths along the Speyside Way bank running through nearby alder woods (please avoid walking on Kingston shingle spit between May-August during tern nesting season).
