Invereshie & Inshriach National Nature Reserve

Invereshie & Inshriach National Nature Reserve is a beautiful place to explore and experience Scotland’s stunning wildlife. This reserve offers a variety of tracks and old stalker paths that lead through rich forests and boggy pools up to wild open lands where grouse chortle and eagles hunt. Managed by NatureScot, it showcases the Cairngorms unique woodland making it a great spot for nature lovers. Visitors can observe a variety of animals such as red squirrels, golden eagles, dotterels, ptarmigans and mountain hares throughout the reserve.

The pine forest in Invereshie & Inshriach National Nature Reserve changes with the seasons, making it a perfect year-round destination. The forest is also home to some of Scotland’s rarest plants and animals, such as the twinflower. In addition, visitors can explore the undergrowth with abundant mosses, lichens, fungi, and dwarf shrubs like heather, blaeberry, and cowberry.

To reach the reserve, you can leave the A9 at the intersection for B970 for Feshiebridge or Kincraig. From the memorial stone village, cross the wooden bridge over River Spey, and drive for about a mile to the T-junction. Turn left for Feshiebridge and continue for 4 miles to the car park on the right, located along the road towards Achlean. The nearest bus stop is located 6 miles from the reserve, and it’s the end of B970 NNR. The Heather Hopper connects the entire Cairngorms National Park. The nearest railway stations are Kingussie (6m) and Aviemore (6m) on the Perth-Inverness line. A bike route is also available from Kincraig to Inverness section NCN7 Glasgow-Inverness, following the public roads adjacent to the NNR. Visitors can also access the reserve via the Speyside Way from Aviemore Buckie terminal, which is located 6 miles from the reserve.
