Smoo Cave
This sea cave is an impressive and dramatic sight set into the limestone cliffs in Sutherland. Located about one mile east of Durness, it can be accessed by either a path from the car park on the cliffs or by boat. It has one of Britain’s biggest entrances to any sea cave at 50 ft tall and is illuminated within. The creation of this remarkable structure was due to both a burn running down into its rear chamber as well as erosion caused by the ocean tides over time.
